2006 LOWA Annual Conference in St. Francisville
The 2006 LOWA Annual Conference was held in St. Francisville, Louisiana from August 16-20, 2006. The host hotel was the Best Western on the Lake.
Members started the conference on Thursday with a fishing trip to Woodlawn Plantation. While there, they were treated a luncheon of Southern Belle Sandwiches and a presentation on pond management. After a day of catching as many bream as we wanted, some of the guys cleaned our catch and Joe Macaluso fried it up for us once we returned to the hotel. What a great way to top off a long day of fishing!
On Friday, the members attended one of two seminars. One seminar on photography was presented by a representative from Nikon. The other seminar took place at Idlewild Plantation. The LOWA members learned about deer research and antler development.
While the members attended seminars, the spouses toured several homes in the St. Francisville area and had a great lunch at St. Francisville’s famous Oxbow Restaurant.
During the afternoon, the LOWA Board held their Annual Board meeting.
Friday is also the LOWA Trade Show night. LOWA members were eating and greeting while visiting with our various supporting members who participated in the Trade Show.
On Saturday, the members were treated to a special tour. We boarded a bus early in the morning and headed to Angola Penitentiary for a visit to the Angola Museum and then fascinating guided tour. Thank goodness we all made it back to the hotel! We were afraid that they may try to keep one or two of us!
Saturday night can only mean one thing–LOWA’s Annual Awards Banquet.
The guest speaker for our banquet was Dr. Jimmy Johnston of USGS. His presentation on Biological Impacts of Hurricanes on Gulf Coast Areas was well received by the banquet attendees.
The banquet was topped off by the presentation of the Youth Journalism Contest, the Excellence in Craft Awards and our annual raffle.
